95th Bomb Group Patch

During my visit to the American Air Museum in Duxford recently, I had the most heartwarming encounter with a young artist. It seems that Maddie Adamson was part of a group of enthusiastic re-enactors, who were all decked out in American uniforms. Dressed as a nurse, she accompanied a group early on Saturday that came by our sales table inside the museum to get a look at the book. If memory serves, two or three were sold to members of the group, and I was told that they spent the rest of the event on Saturday pawing over the book when not otherwise occupied in their display area.

Imagine my surprise when later that afternoon she returned to our table, with a newly minted leather 95th Bomb Group patch. It seems that she had noticed my laptop cover with it's 95th BG sticker, and she decided to paint one that afternoon as a way of saying "Thanks!" for bringing the book. It was a most unexpected gift, and will find a place of honor on my wife's leather flight jacket.

To say that the young people there were into the history of the war would be an understatement, and quite a testament to the memory of the Americans lost in the war. My hat is off to them individually and as a group...they were GREAT!

This jacket was sent to me by the son of a 95th Bomb Group veteran, and is one of over 100 jackets that were photographed for the book "Bomber Boys: Flight Jacket Art." Contemporary portraits of many of the veterans, and their stories appear in the book, which has already won two international design awards.

Available now, it's not too early to begin thinking about Christmas! The book is also available at these fine museum gift shops across the USA, with the proceeds benefitting the museum.
