A-2, Summer Weight Flight Jackets
Captain Everett Graves was a B-24 Liberator pilot, and member of the 460th Bomb Group, the Black Panthers. He flew a total of 50 bomb missions in WWII. Wounded in the shoulder and neck on this ninth mission over the marshalling yards of Castel-Maggiore, Italy, he returned to action a few weeks later.
Robert M. Mitchell was a B-17 ball turret gunner in World War Two. He explains here a short conversation he had with his father, a World War One veteran, shortly before he shipped out for basic training.
Excerpts from the book, including jacket images, ephemera, stories, plus audio and video interviews.
Other Art
In his spare time between his 30 missions flown over Europe, SSG Harvey Brundage carved these aircraft models from broken pieces of bomber windshields.
Diaries, Writings, and Documents
Captain Walter Thomason kept these “bomb tags” and are a set of 34. Each tag briefly described a particular mission over occupied Europe, including the date, the target, the bomb load, and mission number.
